A bit about us and how the brand came to be…
There’s two of us involved in the endeavour. Kyle Cuthiell & Brendon Edgar. Both born and raised in Whistler BC, Canada.
SixHats is a passion project for us so we both work full time jobs. (Need to support our hat hobby somehow : )
The brand came to a few years back over a cold pint on a patio in Vancouver. We were discussing our expensive custom hat hobby or so we’ll call it. Another cold one & some productive conversation led to… “Hey let’s just start a hat business; we’ll save money on these hats”
(Looking back it definitely did not save us any money)
Fast forward 2 years, and here we are. 1 month into operations & 680 people have been provided with clean drinking water for a year. IT’S AMAZING!!! The business definitely evolved over the 2 year period from dissapointing products, mis
prints and way too many hats that were well… Complete failures. We must have tested 4 or 5 manufacturers before we found a manufacturer capable of meeting our high standards & quality expectations. Once we had the production side figured out, it was time to reflect on why we started the business. We started the business to be able design and produce our own favorite hats, add to our ever growing collections, and share our products with like minded people. Also most likely anger our spouses/girlfirends with said collections. The business model evolved after witnessing other brands in the space combine awesome products with a worthy cause and leverage the brand to help people and/or the environment. What a great time to be an entrepreneur when you can utilize a reputable partner to deliver water to people in great need whilst designing and producing a product you are passionate about. We just hope that there are some more people out there that share our passion! Next step was to crunch the numbers and after analyzing our margins it was realistic to help 6 people per hat. There you have it; www.SixHats.ca was born.
It’s safe to say that water is one of the most underestimated resources. Especially here in British Columbia, Canada where we have a abundance of fresh drinking water. Travelling the world you quickly learn its not like that everywhere, or most places we should say. To make a long story short by choosing clean drinking water as our cause we feel that we can make the biggest impact on the most people’s lives with our donations
To fulfill our donations we have partnered up with The Thirst Project. All the info on current efforts & projects can be found on these two links
The hats are a reflection of our lifestyles and experiences while growing up on the west coast of Canada. They are only made with premium materials with maximum quality & comfort in mind. Materials such as heritage flannel, suede, denim & cotton twill. Our patches are made with real leather. Shortcuts were not an option for us.
The designs are pieces that remind us of the great outdoors. All of them have a certain element of comparison to our experiences in and around beautiful British Columbia.
I would say water is the most underestimated resource especially here in BC where we have a abundance of fresh drinking water.
